How to Start Advertising on Facebook

Hey everybody, it’s Adam with ParaCore, and in today’s video, I’m gonna talk about how you can start advertising on Facebook and Instagram if you wanna start running ads in those different channels, and there are only a variety, a handful of different ways that you can advertise on the platforms, or like methods using outside resources or whatever, so we’re gonna talk about all of those, talk about the positives and negatives for each one.
All right, so the very first option is the do-it-yourself option, which is you learn to run ads on Facebook and Instagram on your own. Now this is obviously the most time consuming, it’s obviously the most affordable, but it’ll give you a really good handle on how the ad platforms work, and Facebook makes it really easy. They give you the promote button that you can hit, and then boost some ads just right off your page, without even really going in the ads manager. Alternatively, what I would recommend, if you’re wanting to run ads yourself, is to sign up for someone’s Facebook course. Jon Loomer or Rick Mulready, those two guys have Facebook ad manager courses that you can sign up for. Sometimes they’re a couple hundred dollars, sometimes they’re more, but taking some sort of organized, guided training, where you have a community, on Facebook, where you can get questions answered, and get all that information, is the best way to start if you’re running it yourself. But have some sort of coach that teaches you how to run ads in those different platforms, and then sign up for their course, pay some money, and learn how to do it, and you’re gonna save a lot of time doing that rather than the trial and error of going through it yourself, because if you’re doing it on your own, the difference between objectives, and lead forms, and messages, and ad formats, and placements, and all of that, it’s just gonna take a while to figure out. And then what also comes with that is the community in typically a private Facebook group, so I would recommend on the do-it-yourself, hire a coach, use Jon Loomer, Rick Mulready, someone else, and then become a part of their program. So that’s the do-it-yourself.
The second, if you don’t wanna be running ads yourself, is to look for a freelancer. So freelancers are obviously individuals that work on these types of marketing campaigns. They are typically the most affordable kind of outsourced solution, or at least one of the most affordable, and they’re probably gonna run you somewhere in the neighborhood of, on the lower end, maybe like $200 a month, to on the upper end, I mean, if you’re paying really expensive freelancers, like you know, many, many thousands of dollars, maybe $5,000. But probably like 250 a month to like a thousand is probably like the entry level freelancer range, and that’s a really good place if you want someone that knows what they’re doing, they might be like stay at home, they might just be working on their own, that’s a really good option. Hiring someone to do it, that’s not gonna cost you thousands and thousands of dollars. They also work with budgets that are probably, you know, somewhere between $300 and the thousand dollars per month, and up from there. It’s like a lower barrier to entry, so if you have a $300 ads manager, and a $700 budget, you’re all in for like a thousand dollars, right? So that is a reasonable entry point into the market when you’re running Facebook ads.
Now, an alternative to freelancers is using a platform like Upwork, which gives you access to freelancers kind of around the world, you have to post your job, and then people from all over the world, or you can just do the country or whatever, can bid on your work, and you won’t really know those people, but they can be a lot cheaper, it can be like an hourly thing, where you’re paying like 10 bucks an hour for them to build campaigns for you. So you kinda get what you pay for in these different scenarios, where if you’re outsourcing on Upwork to someone in another country, you might have difficulty ’cause they’re writing the ads with the language, and things like that. If you’re paying a freelancer locally, I always say when freelancers go on vacation, so does your work. So, you know, that might happen. It’s good strategy to get into the Facebook or Instagram or whatever type of digital marketing by using a freelancer, and it might be someone that’s a little but newer, but you won’t be paying as much.
Third, you might be able to find like an automated system that’s industry specific, so I know that the real estate industry has ad platforms where you get in and you basically sign up and they just kind of distribute the ads for you based on your geographic targeting, your messaging, and just some other things. And it’s all kind of automated, so you don’t really need to do all the set-up, and do all the targeting, and all that. They just run ads for a lot of real estate agents, and so they just kick ’em out and start running them, and you probably just pay for the adspend, plus like a margin on the adspend, and then instead of paying for like $200 in ads to Facebook, you’re probably paying them for like $275, $250, and then they take the $50 spread or something. I’m fairly certain that’s how those work. Or maybe there’s a monthly fee. There’s probably a variety of different setups. So that’s kinda your third option, which is finding some sort of automated system.
And then the fourth option is hiring an agency, and that’s definitely the most expensive option. There’s two types of agencies. You have a full service agency, which offers a lot of different types of services. They might offer branding, and PR, and website development, and paid ads, and SEO, and content creation, and blah blah blah blah, everything under the sun.
Or you can do a specialist agency, like ParaCore, we just do pay-per-click advertising. So we only work in the pay-per-click advertising world, and that includes like landing page development, building Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, AdWords, Bing, like those ad campaigns, and then only working in that area. So you know, pricing on the agency side, if you’re working with a full service agency, and you have other services running with them, they might bolt on PPC for like $500 a month. Or, it might be a higher price, like in the thousands per month for their management fees. And oftentimes, if you work with a full service agency, they want you to be running a higher adspend, and you know, you typically just have a little bit more money to be spending on advertising and marketing.
So the downside there is that oftentimes they’re experts at one thing, and it’s typically not PPC. They might be experts at branding or PR, and then they added on PPCs, so they have maybe one guy, or a half-guy, or a freelancer that’s running your ads, so you’re getting kind of professional management, but it’s not the most experienced professional management. Like you might get the freelancer guy that goes to the agency, and there might be one person there, that’s kind of typically what I see in like a small or medium size agency. If you get to a really big agency, like a really big agency, first of all, your probably not watching this video. But second of all, they probably have like a larger team of people. On the specialist agency side, like ParaCore, we have currently 11 people, and we all just do pay-per-click, so you know, in my opinion, my biased opinion, I think that we probably have the highest level of expertise out of all of those different scenarios, but also, we’re probably the most expensive when it comes to management fees.
So agencies like ours are typically somewhere in the neighborhood of maybe $1,500 to $2,000 per month, up to I’ve heard as high as $5,000 per month, and then sometimes people are doing percentage of spends, where if the spend is $100,000 a month, they might be getting paid $10,000 a month, or more. There is a very large range in that area. We tend to do a fixed fee that’s kind of tiered. So we’re probably somewhere in the middle of the pack. We’re not the highest, we’re not the lowest. But agencies, full service agencies, especially specialist agencies, are working a lot of accounts at the same time, have a lot of experience, know a lot of the nuances of the platforms, know which things work in which industries, and which don’t. And so that’s probably the last option.
So if you’re wanting to run Facebook ads, your options are really, you know, do it yourself, which is obviously the most time consuming, and most affordable. Hiring a freelancer, which, Upwork is a great place to go, or I would ask your network on Linkedin or Facebook for referrals, ’cause typically you can get them. Third is finding some sort of automated system or platform for your industry in particular, like real estate I think is probably one that has something like that. And then fourth is hiring an agency, and you’re looking at full service versus niche agency, and then the pros and cons there. So that’s all, a lot of times we’re just talking to people about how do I run ads on, I wanna run ads on Facebook, but I don’t really know my options are, and they come to us, and a lot of times, we’re like killing a mosquito with a bazooka gun, we just have like, there’s just a lot more fire power at ParaCore than is needed for a lot of different campaigns, so there are a lot of options out there, and choose the one that suits you best, and if you have any questions, please let me know.
